Nuno Bernardo is an award-winning and Emmy-nominated transmedia writer and producer, and the creator of the world’s first international interactive on-line teen series, Sofia’s Diary.
After spending some years in the marketing and advertising worlds, Nuno Bernardo established his own company, beActive, where he created Sofia’s Diary (Portugal), an Interactive TV Series that explores modern Pop culture and European teen culture. The project is pioneering in its mix of traditional media such as TV, books and feature films with new media such as the Internet and mobile. The series has been localised in 10 territories around the world so far and is distributed by Sony Pictures Television.
Nuno was nominated for Sofia’s Diary for the 2004 Innovation Award at the Mobile Entertainment Forum Awards (London) and also for the Mobile & Internet TV Awards in 2007 (Cannes). His pioneering work in transmedia has led him to be guest and keynote speaker at international events such as the Toronto, Cannes and Venice International Film Festivals, MIPTV (Cannes), MEM (London), Participation TV (London), the Interactive TV Show Europe as well as many others.
In North America he is an Executive Producer for prime-time TV series including The Weight featuring Linda Hamilton and Living in Your Car, which recently premiered on HBO Canada and will be broadcast in the UK on Channel FIVE.
Last year Nuno finished the production of the third season of Sofia’s Diary UK for SONY and the social network BEBO.COM and the second season of the interactive show, Flatmates, for Portuguese web portal SAPO and national broadcaster RTP and which was nominated for the Rose D’Or Awards. In Brazil Nuno produced the interactive series Final Punishment which earned him an Emmy nomination and a TelaViva Best interactive Show Award. His work as the producer and creator of the series Aisling’s Diary for Irish broadcaster RTE also earned him, earlier this year, a Kidscreen Award in New York for Best One-Off Teen Drama.
Currently, Nuno is producing Beat Generation, the UK & Ireland’s first on-line magazine and developing two new interactive series. In his home country, Nuno Bernardo has sold more than 500.000 books and his work is being licensed for international publishing.
