This is a great list of materials. I have read about a third of these articles on different blogs, great that they are all aggregated here. My experience with my movie, Self Helpless, is one from the "do what works for you" camp. We wrote a story that we knew we might actually have the budget to make. We were also conscious of trying to make a story that would eschew the esoteric in favor of just trying to make people laugh. Our distribution model is an old fashioned business plan. We have tried a number of financial models, and a college tour with accompanying online DVD and merch sales is our best avenue for making money. We will not be able to forget this movie and use our profits to start the next one in a couple months. We will, however, be able to continue working on our creation and building an audience in a financially sustainable model for the next 6-12 months. This would not work for everyone, but it works for us. Mobility is our key. What is yours?
