NUNO BERNARDO

Nuno Bernardo is an award-winning and Emmy-nominated transmedia writer and producer, and the creator of the world’s first international interactive on-line teen series, Sofia’s Diary. He is also the author of “The Producer’s Guide to Transmedia”, to be published in March 2011.

After spending some years in the marketing and advertising worlds, Nuno established his own company, beActive, where he created Sofia’s Diary (Portugal), a pioneering interactive TV series combining traditional media such as TV, books and live events with new media such as Internet and mobile. The series has been localised in 10 territories around the world to date, and is distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

His pioneering work in this area has led him to be guest and keynote speaker at international events such as the Toronto, Cannes and Venice International Film Festivals, MIPTV (Cannes), MEM (London), Participation TV (London), the Interactive TV Show Europe, Power to the Pixel and many others.

In North America he is an executive producer for prime-time TV series including The Weight, featuring Linda Hamilton, and Living in Your Car, which recently premiered on HBO Canada and will be broadcast in the UK on Channel FIVE.

Nuno’s recent work includes Sofia’s Diary UK for SONY and bebo.com, and the second season of the interactive show Flatmates for the Portuguese web portal SAPO and national broadcaster RTP. Flatmates was nominated for the Rose D’Or Awards, and is now being broadcast in local versions in Greece and Romania. His work as the producer and creator of the series Aisling’s Diary for Irish broadcaster RTE also earned him a Kidscreen Award in New York for Best Teen Drama.

In Brazil, Nuno produced the transmedia series Final Punishment, which earned him an Emmy and a Rose D’Or nomination, a TelaViva Best Interactive Show Award, and a C21/Frapa Best Multi-platform Format Award.

Currently, Nuno is producing the transmedia series Collider and Beat Girl to be released in the UK in mid-2011. In his home country Nuno has already sold more than 500,000 books, and his work is being licensed for international publishing.
